What you can do with it
SimilarImages is a free application designed to find similar images (duplicates) on your harddrives.
It therefore uses a fast Graphics Library to access the files and analyized the contents of the images and not the binary contents of a file.
Depending on these results (datasets) SimilarImages computes comparision values on a file-to-file base.
If this comparision value is below a certain, user-configurable value the file-pair will be considered to be similar and the Compare Files Window shows up.
The "Compare Files" Window
This window includes several actions you may take, like deleting one or both files or swapping files (replace one with the other).
For more usability there is also another action, the Semi-automated Deletion which pre-selects one file of the given pair depending on user-configurable Rules-Set.
How to search
You are free to use Normal, Inclusive (Only within same source-directory), or Exclusive (Only outside same source-directory) search modes.
Furthermore SimilarImages now includes a feature to process only new files (by a given date: SimilarImages remembers when you last processed a directory, but you are free to choose a date-limit yourself).
Caches
SimilarImages per default caches all the datasets so that the analyzation process will be much faster in later searches.
Another great feature is the Not-A-Match Database which "remembers" when you step over a shown pair. This pair will not be shown again, unless one of both files gets modified or you disable Not-A-Match Database.
